more big storm we have to contend w.let's get right to sandy tracking it all open live doppler 7 hd. live doppler 7 hd we see the rainfall intensity picking up again so show you where the showers are. first we go to the north bay where they have been coming in and just redeveloping very quickly. i take you down to street level here around guerneville and russian river to forgetville. river road sweetwater springs road we get some moderate to heavy rainfall right now and as we pan around to other parts of the bay area you can see here glen ellen warm springs road we have some showers out towards napa road. check this out around nap can see how quickly this is all developing and moving. old sonoma road getting a heavy downpour. in the east bay we go through street out to albany berkeley dwight avenue lighter rainfall but we have some moderate rain showing up here so we are watching that for you. few scattered showers and other parts of the bay area mainly the peninsula south bay rainfall total have been excessive in some of our hills. almost 9 inches of rain in the santa c

as the red cross back at super storm sandy because we have neighbors helping neighbors. we served about 160 people to help out with that terrible storm back east. and the words i'm getting back from our volunteers and staff is, this is a horrific disaster. we're learning many, many lessons that will be translated into, god forbid, anything that might happen here in the bay area. so, know that we are always going to help our neighbors because it's the right thing to do. but it's also an opportunity to learn from the latest things that are happening around the country and the world so that we know when something happens here that, a, we're going to join up with our partners from catholic charities, salvation army, the city, the county, and make sure that people are going to be cared for in the best possible way. we are honored to be a part of this fabulous community, and know that we are in such good company with the people arrayed here in this room. so, mr. mayor, again, thanks so very much for the privilege of being a part of this with you. >> thank you. hurricane sandy, the governors of new york and new jersey are asking for $80 billion in federal aid. many homeowners thought they were already covered by federal flood insurance but as michelle miller reports this morning they are getting an unwelcomed surprise. >> reporter: roman and mariana's staten island home was flooded by 11 feet of water when sandy struck. >> how high did the water come in? >> it went through the ceiling on to the first floor. >> reporter: they had flood insurance through fema. that's common for people who live in flood zones. they thought the inspector from fema would give them a check to repair $100,000 in damages. >> first floor where you're standing right now is definitely not covered by the flood policy. >> why? >> this neighborhood is considered to be in the flood zone. >> reporter: under fema's flood insurance program the first floor of a house should be used for parking or storage only. furnaces and water heaters are covered but finished walls, floors and furniture are not. that caught them and other homeowners we met by surprise. >> this is the sole reason

:51. some new jobless claims are down as the impact of superstorm sandy fades away. here now to chat about that and more, jason brooks with kcbs and good morning. >> reporter: some decent news on the economy out there. the labor department reporting that first time weekly claims fell 23,000 to 393,000 and for the first time in several weeks, superstorm sandy not distorting figures. now the overall trend is still distorted. the four-week average rose to 450,000. and another look at the economy, come from the commerce department its second look at 3rd quarter gross domestic product overall economic growth revising it higher to 2.7% from an earlier estimate of 2% also compared to 1.3% in the 2nd quarter. now, the 4th quarter is likely to be impacted by sandy and also from "fiscal cliff" worries. as far as the "fiscal cliff" goes, politico is reporting this morning that there is a framework for a deal in place that would include $1.2 trillion in tax increases and $400 billion in entitlement cuts on medicare. wall street watching that closely. let's look at the numbers. the d
